Description
HCMZW8 indicates whether the woman reported "ZNFPC [Zimbabwe National Family Planning Council] clinic" as a source for male condoms. This response category is country-specific to Zimbabwe.
Some samples in the "HCM" series include categories that can be consolidated into a single response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable while preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
HCMZW8 is combined with HCMZW2 (ZNFPC CBD/Depot) and HCMZW14 (ZNFPC mobile clinic) in HCMPUBFPC (all public family planning clinics) for the 1994 and 1999 Zimbabwe samples.
Additionally, HCMZW8 is combined with HCMZW2 in HCMPUBFPC for the 2005, 2010, and 2015 Zimbabwe samples.
Comparability
Apart from slight universe differences, HCMZW2 is largely comparable across samples.
Comparability - Standard DHS
An open-ended question on known sources for male condoms is included in the standard DHS questionnaire in Phases III forward.
Though HCMZW8 is a country-specific response, this variable is combined with other responses in HCMPUBFPC, a variable that encompasses all public family planning clinics/associations as sources of male condoms. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of HCMZW8 or the Comparability tab of HCMSHOP for more information on the specific categories combined for Zimbabwe 1994, 1999, 2010, and 2015.
